PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A federal appeals court has upheld the conviction of a former Johnston art dealer for fraud and money laundering.
According to federal prosecutors, the court also upheld Rocco DeSimone's 16-year prison sentence, and the more than $6 million he's been ordered to pay in restitution.
DeSimone was found guilty last year of conning investors out of millions. Prosecutors say he convinced his victims they were investing in inventions that had been purchased by major corporations.
DeSimone was convicted of tax fraud in 2005. He briefly escaped from prison in 2008.
