PROVIDENCE, R.I., (WPRI) -- A Providence man has been charged with murder after officials say he beat his 8-week-old daughter to death.
In court on Tuesday, it took prosecutors nearly 30 seconds to list all of baby Christina's broken bones.
"Doctors diagnosed her with a traumatic brain injury. She had four skull fractures, at least 25 rib fractures. She had a healing fracture of her pubic bone, a right femur fracture, a right distal femur fracture. She had a distal tibia fracture, proximal tibia fracture said Shannon Signore, Special Assistant Attorney General. “Also she had multiple fractures to her fingers and toes.”
Christopher Jimenez, 26, was arrested in June, accused of severely beating the infant after she was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital.
“Squeezing the baby so hard that he may have fractured her ribs. He also admitted to bumping her head on a door,” said Signore.
The child's mother, Mayra Gonzalez, 18, was also arrested and is facing charges of felony neglect.
The child succumbed to her injuries and was taken off of life support Saturday.
The special assistant to the Attorney General says the charges could also be upgraded for Gonzalez. Both her and Jimenez's cases have been referred to grand juries.
Jimenez was ordered held without bail. He's due back in court July 24 for a bail hearing.
