PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A Providence doctor is placed on probation for five years following an investigation by the Rhode Island Health Department.
Health officials found Dr. Rita Kurl improperly inserted a feeding tube into the abdomen of a Fatima Hospital patient in 2008.
The 89-year old woman developed a severe infection and died 13 days later.
A consent order showed Kurl ordered an x-ray after the patient yelled out in pain, but the doctor read the wrong film which showed no problem.
The Associated Press left a message for Kurl at Roger Williams Medical Center, but did not hear back.
