PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence first responders are getting special training in how to deal with hybrid vehicles when they are involved in a crash.
Officials say hybrids can present unique challenges and hazards because of their high voltage systems.
The training for members of the Providence Fire Department will include how to identify, immobilize and disable hybrid vehicles in an emergency.
City firefighters will be briefed and undergo training on Wednesday morning at the Providence Public Safety Complex.
The training is being done by a local Toyota dealer. Toyota makes the hybrid Prius.
