PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A Cranston businessman has pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government.
William L'Europa, 47, co-operator of McCauley and L'Europa Public Adjusters, LLC and PIA Restoration, LLC, entered his plea in U.S. District Court Thursday.
L'Europa admitted in court to underreporting business receipts from 2007 to 2010 by nearly $1.8 million, resulting in the underpayment of more than $500,000 to the IRS.
L'Europa's co-defendant, John J. McCauley, 54, also of Cranston, is expected to change his plea to guilty on Friday. He's also been charged with filing false tax returns and conspiring to defraud the government.
He pleaded not guilty to those charges in September.
L'Europa is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 20.
