PROVIDENCE, RI (AP) - Testimony resumes Monday in the trial of a Providence police officer accused of raping a woman while on duty.
The sexual assault trial of Marcus Huffman opened last week in Providence Superior Court.
The 22-year-old woman who accuses Huffman of raping her in March 2007 testified that she was drunk and feeling sick when Huffman offered her a ride outside a Providence nightclub.
Prosecutors say Huffman raped the woman inside an empty police substation, then showed up to take a report after 911 was called from her aunt’s house.
Huffman’s lawyer did not give an opening statement, but will have a chance to question the accuser on the witness stand if he wants.
Huffman has been suspended without pay from the police force.
