Company to double charities' donations

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Three Rhode Island charities are getting a unique chance to double their fundraising totals.

Crossroads Rhode Island , the United Way of Rhode Island , and the Rhode Island Community Food Bank announced Monday that they are partnering with Amica Insurance for the Amica $75,000 Community Challenge .

Amica has pledged to match any donations the non-profits receive through February 15th, up to $25,000 per organization.

"You don't get too many opportunities like this," said Tony Maione, President and CEO of the United Way of Rhode Island.

"To get a dollar-for-dollar match for every dollar raised is a great way for donors who care about the struggle for food, who care about the struggle for housing, who care about the struggle for heat, to double-up."

All three organizations say they have seen an increase in need in recent years because of the state's struggling economy.
