PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- New laws aimed at keeping tobacco products away from minors are now in place in Providence.

Beginning Thursday, businesses in the city are prohibited from selling most flavored tobacco products, with the exception or mint, menthol, and wintergreen flavors.

Providence stores are also banned from redeeming coupons that offer discounted or free tobacco products to customers.

The tobacco industry sued to block the ordinances in federal court last year, but lost the case.
