Ceremony honors RI's fallen veterans

Wreath laid at the Garden of Heroes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - State and military leaders honored Rhode Island's fallen veterans of war on Friday with a wreath laying at the Garden of Heroes.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts, Sen. Jack Reed, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse and Rep. David Cicilline and Major General Kevin McBride of the Rhode Island National Guard all attended the event.

The Garden of Heroes is located on the Southwest Lawn of the State House.

It was officially dedicated in October 2005 to "Rhode Island service members who made the ultimate sacrifice during operations in support of the global war on terrorism since September 11, 2001."

By September 2012, the Memorial Stone will bear the names of 27 soldiers in all:
