PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Police have arrested a man in connection with an armed bank robbery inside of a Providence supermarket.

Raymond Anthony, 26, was taken into custody and charged with robbing the Citizens Bank branch inside of the Stop & Shop on West River Street Wednesday.

Police tell us they were alerted by eyewitnesses to the scene just before 7 p.m. The teller described the suspect as a white male wearing a grey hoodie, blue gloves and a white mask, and said he showed a gun and demanded money.

The teller placed more than $2,000 in a bag and the suspect fled in a white Oldsmobile with cardboard obstructing the license plates, witnesses told police.

Officers were able to track down the vehicle and trace it to a Providence residence, where witnesses told police that a man matching the description of the suspect was seen getting into a black Nissan Altima, which could be found at 273 Potters Avenue.

Anthony was found by police on the third floor of that residence and apprehended. A plastic bag containing an undetermined amount of dye-stained cash was recovered from the scene.

Anthony is due in Providence District Court Thursday for arraignment.

Nobody was injured during the incident.
