Nightclub Shooting Suspects Appear in Court

Police ID victims in club shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Providence Police have identified the two victims in Sunday morning's shooting outside Monet Lounge.

Jamal Cruz, 38 of Wareham, Mass., and Rokiem Henley, 36 of Brockton, Mass., were both shot in a dirt parking lot across from the nightclub around 2:30 a.m.

Police officers assigned to a detail on Harris Avenue heard the gunshots and called for additional police back-up.

Two suspects were immediately taken into custody once the detail officers arrived on scene.

Both Cruz and Henley were transported to Rhode Island Hospital where Cruz was pronounced dead.

Henley is being treated for a gunshot wound to his leg.

Suspects Terrel Barros, 23, and Stephen Bodden, 22, both of New Bedford are scheduled to be arraigned in Providence District Court Monday afternoon.

Barros is facing a variety of charges, including murder, using a firearm while committing a crime of violence, receiving a stolen weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm, carrying a stolen firearm, and assault with a dangerous weapon. Bodden is facing charges of carrying a pistol without a license and receiving stolen goods.

It marks the city’s 14 th homicide of 2012.
