Patrick Kennedy starts seminar at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Former Rhode Island Congressman Patrick Kennedy is starting a new stint as a teacher.

Kennedy is part of a team teaching a seminar at Brown University beginning Monday. The university says the seminar will examine lessons learned from government efforts to combat disease and apply them to improving mental health and brain research. Enrollment is limited to 24 students.

Kennedy is a visiting fellow at the Brown Institute for Brain Science. The other instructors are Judy Bentkover an adjunct professor at Brown's Alpert Medical School and R. John Davenport, the associate director of the Brown Institute for Brain Science.

Kennedy did not seek re-election and left Congress last January after eight terms. He and neuroscientists have launched an initiative to improve funding and unify research efforts in brain science.
