PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - One person has been killed in an apparent drunk driving accident on I-95.

The accident happened in the southbound lane near the Washington Street overpass at 3:05 a.m. Saturday. Crews shut down three lanes of traffic from about 3 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. while investigators were on the scene.

Lt. Kelsey Marshall with the R.I. State Police said  21-year old Erica Moul of Smithfield was killed and it appears she jumped from the car in which she was riding.

Moul was not struck by another vehicle contrary to what was initially reported, noted Lt. Marshall.

The driver of that car, 48-year-old Joseph Aloisio of Cranston, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence; he wasn't harmed in the accident.

Multiple R.I. State Troopers responded to the accident and the State Medical Examiner was also at the scene.

Aloisio is scheduled to be arraigned in front of a Justice of the Peace at State Police Headquarters Saturday afternoon.
