EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI)-- Oldham Elementary School in East Providence will close at the end of this school year.
The city's state appointed budget commission decided Thursday to endorse the school committee's decision to close the school.
Returning students will attend Meadowcrest Elementary School in the fall.
Oldham Elementary needs an estimated $2 million in repairs, compared to $250 thousand it is expected to cost in upgrades for Meadowcrest to accommodate the increase in students.
Meadowcrest's preschool and special-needs classes will move to their own wing at Waddington School.
