PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – State and Providence police say the city’s neighborhood response team (NRT) has been a huge success so far this summer.

The forces have been teaming up to increase police presence in the capital city since 2005.

Officials say that as of May 3, they have made more than 200 arrests for charges including driving while intoxicated, first degree robbery, and fugitive from justice.

Police say that the NRT is an effective tool in reducing violence in Providence.

The NRT is also deployed during the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s holiday weekends.
