PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A native of Thailand living in Rhode Island has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges stemming from a 2011 search of his home that turned up drugs, a gun and nearly $25,000 in counterfeit cash.
Federal prosecutors said that Sonethanong Khongsouvankhamn learned his punishment on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Providence.
Prosecutors say police found cocaine, marijuana, a gun, ammunition, nearly $25,000 in counterfeit cash and equipment for counterfeiting money during a search of Khongsouvankhamn's home in Woonsocket last March.
Prosecutors say Khongsouvankhamn told police he'd been selling drugs since November 2010.
He pleaded guilty in September to charges including to possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and manufacturing counterfeit money.
