PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Ocean State is hoping for a visit from a national tourism organization that will result in more visitors to the state.
One hundred and fifty delegates from the National Tour Association will visit Rhode Island next week to learn about the state's tourism attractions and facilties.
The association represents about 1,5000 package tour operators from around the country. Officials at the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation hope the trip will lead to increased tourism at a time where many destinations are struggling to attract visitors.
The Economic Development Corporation says one of the tour companies affiliated with the Tour Association has already booked 18 group tours for next year in Newport.
