PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A motion in the case of a Rhode Island police officer who kicked a handcuffed woman in the head has been rescheduled.
The case of State versus Lincoln Police Officer Edward Krawetz has been postponed after a motion for a new trial was rescheduled; both sides in the case were supposed to meet on Monday, February 13th, to discuss the motion.
However, at the request of the defense counsel, both parties involved in the case will not meet as regularly planned.
Krawetz has been found guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon after kicking Massachusetts resident Donna Levesque in the head in May of 2009; video from his trial clearly showed him kicking Levesque while handcuffed outside Twin River Casino.
During his trial, experts stated that Krawetz's kick to Levesque was warranted and he did it out of self-defense after she became physical with him while being restrained.
In addition, it was learned while the trial began, that Krawetz had prior assault convictions. He was convicted of misdemeanor assault back in 2001 after a confrontation with a man who was jogging with friends in Cumberland.
