PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Eyewitness News will carry on a proud tradition that really helps make a difference in the lives of local children on Saturday, the 35th annual Meeting Street Telethon.

From a fancy new purse to a hockey stick signed by the Providence Bruins, Meeting Street is auctioning off roughly 80 items as part of its annual telethon.

Meeting Street President John Kelly said, "There's something in the auction for everyone. There's a rumor that starting Saturday night we may have some Curt Schilling items so we're really excited about that. "

As in recent years, this year's auction is going high tech with all of the bidding done online.

"You can find out how your bid is doing as compared to everyone else, you can set up an alert system so if someone is bidding higher than you, you know," said Kelly.

The auction is just one of several ways Southern New Englanders can give to Meeting Street, a school that provides services to kids of all abilities. The school said donations from the telethon and auction account for ten percent of its operating budget.

Donations from one dollar to several hundred dollars can make a difference.

Don't forget the auction ends Saturday at 11p.m. The telethon will be streaming right here on wpri.com starting at 7p.m.
