(WPRI) -- A 4.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Maine Tuesday night was felt all throughout New England.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey , the quake struck about three miles away from Hollis Center at 7:12 p.m.
Sandra Christianson and Susan Michaud of Riverside were among those who felt the quake in Rhode Island.
"We were sitting on the couch watching the debate and all of a sudden the couch started shaking and our cats, their ears started going up in the air," Christianson said.
"I felt the couch shaking, the floor shaking," said Michaud, "I thought the cat was behind me doing something crazy."
Erika Hammond, who lives in Maine, says phone service in her area was spotty after the quake.
"Other than that first initial phone call that I was able to get out, I haven't been able to get any phone calls in or out," Hammond said.
So far, no serious damage has been reported.
