Mayor Angel Taveras, Providence College Basketball coach Ed Cooley, and members from other Boys & Girls Clubs in the state also attended the event.

Johnson is an alumnus of the Boys & Girls Club and a member of its Alumni Hall of Fame.

On Monday, the NBA Hall of Famer spoke with members about the Boy and Girls Club's impact on his life and the importance of the educational programs it offers.

Johnson is in the Ocean State to co-host the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic .

The two-day charity golf tournament at the Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth will help raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence and other local non-profits.
