EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A sex offender notification mishap has parents in one local community angered.
Many residents in East Providence were unaware that a level three sex offender was living in their area. Captain Barlow from East Providence police said the department notified the school in the area, but that school allegedly never notified parents.
Barlow says that this isn't the first time something like this has happened, and that it's becoming an ongoing problem.
With the anticipation of layoffs at
the
department on Friday the sex offender notification unit could
see more difficult times ahead. Thirteen police officers are
expected to be laid off.
