PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A Providence mother is asking for the person who stole her son's special wheelchair to return it, no questions asked.

Latarcia Bonds sai she left the $2,800 wheelchair on the sidewalk outside her Congress Street home like she does every day. When she carried her 4-year-old son D'Mauri outside, it had disappeared.

"I was devastated," Bonds said. "I just couldn't believe it."

D'Mauri has special needs and he can't walk or talk. Bonds says D'Mauri needs the wheelchair to go to school.

"He needs to be in school," she said. "He needs to interact with other kids. He does not need to sit at home."

Bonds has filed a report with the Providence Police Department about the theft.

Anyone with information on where the wheelchair could be is asked to call the Providence Police.

Since the intial story aired, Eyewitness News has received several phone calls and emails about people wanting to help the Bonds family.

Eyewitness News reporter Alex DiPrato will be following up on this story tonight on Eyewitness News at 6.
