Brown University is now the 31st best university in the world, according to an annual ranking by a London-based magazine.
Brown fell four spots from last year, when it was ranked 27th.
The rankings are done by The Times Higher Education Supplement , in conjunction with research firm Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd.
They take into account various factors, including surveys by students, staff, and faculty, as well as academic achievement, and the ability to attract international students and staff.
Harvard University topped the list for the second year in a row.
Massachsuetts Institute of Technology finished 9th.
