EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Station 4 and its administrative offices are undergoing a major change.
On Tuesday, the station and its offices were temporarily relocated about a mile down the road from its home on Wampanoag Trail due to significant renovations being made to station 4.
The fire stations apparatus and personnel will now work out of the former Verizon hub on 175 Amaral Street.
Administration offices will temporarily move to the Sweetland House on 610 Waterman Avenue, on the complex of the East Providence Senior Center.
The relocations will remain in effect through August of 2013.
The relocations are needed for crews to renovate station 4.
The renovations are being made possible through a $6.4 million Station Construction Grant that the fire department received through the Federal Emergency Management Agency via the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
