Katie's Law introduced for 4th year in a row

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Katie's Law has been introduced in Rhode Island for the fourth year in a row.
The legislation is named after Katie Sepich, a 22-year-old who was murdered in 2003 in New Mexico, while her suspected killer was arrested three years later.
Katie's parents believe a sample of the suspects DNA from previous arrests would have identified him immediately.
Since then, they have been advocating to collect DNA from everyone who has been arrested for violent crimes.
Right now, Rhode Island only collects DNA from convicted felons.
