PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Revised employment statistics in Rhode Island indicate recent state job growth was higher than earlier estimates.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee's administration released the new job numbers Wednesday.

The data suggests the state gained 4,800 jobs between March 2011 and March 2012, and ended the first quarter with 7,000 more jobs than first thought.

An April estimate had showed the state lost 2,200 jobs in the preceding 12 months.

Most of the added jobs were in the hospitality, professional services and construction industries.

The new findings come from an analysis of state tax data.

Chafee says the revised numbers are heartening and show the state's economic recovery may be steadier than originally thought.

Rhode Island's jobless rate for June was 10.9 percent, the second highest rate in the nation behind Nevada.
