PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Hasbro Children's Hospital has unveiled five newly renovated operating rooms following an $800,000 facelift.
The upgrades, made possible by the Children‘s Miracle Network, allows doctors at Hasbro to perform advanced endoscopic surgery, and enhanced neurosurgical procedures.
"As our surgical cases have grown exponentially over the years, and minimally invasive surgery has added the need for imaging equipment in the [operating room], we realized we needed to find a way to maximize our space and capabilities," Dr. Thomas Tracy, Jr. said in a news release. "This solution allows each operating room a smaller footprint, easier access for staff and offers a much better teaching facility – all without needing to tear down a single wall."
New high-powered lighting, video screens and monitors have all been mounted to their own overhead movable booms and can be easily swung around from one centrally mounted apparatus on the ceiling. The surgical team now has endoscopes, radiology, patient records and real time anesthesiology monitoring.
It’s hard for me to imagine that a family would want to take their infant or child to a facility that didn’t have this level of sophistication, integration and safety – focused on pediatric anesthesia, surgical care and post anesthesia care,” Dr. Tracy said. “There’s nothing else like it in Rhode Island.
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals in the United States and Canada. Since 1983, the organization has raised more than $4 billion.
