PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – An intense fire in Providence caused a garage to collapse and damaged nearby properties.
The fire broke out at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday on Alvin Street. Flames quickly spread into another garage and damaged two nearby homes, as well as a car parked in the driveway.
Ejiufui Ebele, the owner of the garage, was inside his house at the time of the fire. Ebele says he saw flames and went outside to see what was going on.
Ebele also tells tell Eyewitness News he didn’t know what to do, so he ran back inside grabbed his baby and ran back out.
Deputy Chief James Mirza says they were lucky that they were able to put out the fire before it did any more significant damage.
No injuries were reported on the scene.
Mirza says cause of the fire is still under investigation.
