Police: Suspect and victim were good friends

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The family of a man killed in a rollover on I-95 is speaking out, angry at the driver, who is accused of fleeing the scene and leaving the victim to die.

Kevin A. Killoran, 50, of Cranston is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, death resulting; driving to endanger; and operating on a suspended license.

Police say Killoran was driving his black Mercedes on around 2 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle struck yellow sand barrels and a Jersey barrier where I-195 West and Route 95 South merge in Providence.

Officials said Killoran fled the scene leaving his passenger, David Clinton, 43 of Bristol.

"It is devastating to think that somebody could leave another human being in that kind of a state," said the victim's sister Becky Clinton.

Clinton was pronounced dead at RI Hospital. Killoran turned himself into RI State Police on Monday night.

"As he goes on until the day he dies, it's going to be something he falls asleep every night thinking about, and I'm sure he will. It will eventually destroy him inside, I hope," said the victim's sister.

Killoran owns the Z Bar and Grille on Wickenden Street in Providence, where Clinton was the chef. The men had been friends for nearly 20 years.
