Providence EMA using GPS for snow removal

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Rhode Island’s capital city Emergency Management officials were out and prepared for the state’s first major snowfall of the year.

Emergency Management Director Peter Gaynor told Eyewitness News that about 40 Department of Public Works trucks were out during the storm, working to treat and plow the roads.

The city is also using new GPS technology to track its snow plows.

"We can track it. We can see what roads have been plowed. It's really a better way for us to manage those resources, especially during a snow storm when there's a lot of demand for roads being cleared," Gaynor said.
