EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - School officials in East Providence have proposed closing a city school.

The superintendent recommended closing Oldham Elementary during a school committee meeting Thursday night.

Officials argue the school district can't afford the more than $2 million estimated for repairs at the school.

If the school committee decides to take up the recommendation, a public hearing and open forum meetings would be held in February.
