EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Driving in Southern New England during the winter months can be challenging - thanks to the slick, icy, and snow covered roadways.
A young driver in East Providence learned the hard way it is not just about what's on the ground that you need to worry about - it's what's above, too.
Paul Alarie, 21, was driving to work Thursday morning, when a chunk of snow and ice smashed right through the windshield of his 1994 Acura Integra. He was traveling down Warren Avenue when the large icicle fell from the I-195 overpass.
He believes a plow clearing the highway pushed the chunk of ice right over the bridge.
"It hit with such force snow was in my backseat." Alarie told Eyewitness News.
After smashing through the windshield, the snow-ice mix hit Alarie in the head. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
