EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The East Providence Fire Department has received approval to begin renovation work to two of the city's fire stations.
The fire chief told Eyewitness News $6.4 million in federal grants will be used to add more office space and another garage bay for trucks at Station 1 on Broadway.
Station 4, on the Wampanoag trail, will get a second floor with more room for firefighters.
Both stations will also get upgrades to heating, plumbing and electrical systems.
The work could begin as early as January 2013.
