EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - When police arrived on the scene of an East Providence birthday party this weekend, they found several minors - including a 6-year-old child - consuming alcohol. Now, two people are under arrest.

Officers responded to 215 Providence Ave. Sunday afternoon after receiving a call from a parent who, upon picking up a child from the party, discovered the minor had been drinking.

According to Lt. James Nelson, police on scene found several children, ranging in age from 6 to 15 years old - were served alcohol.

Nelson said the amount of alcohol consumed by the 6-year-old child was small.

Officers arrested Heather Picozzi, 32, of 215 Providence Ave. and charged her with purchasing alcohol for a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Shane Cole of Providence was also arrested and charged with child neglect, Nelson said.

Emergency crews did take several of the juveniles to a local hospital as a precaution.

Nelson said the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families took custody of any minors living at the Providence Ave. address.

Cole and Picozzi are both due back in court on June 4th.
