PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Some fans of rock band The Who were rewarded for their patience today in Providence.

Thirty-three years ago, ticket holders to The Who concert in the capital city were told the show would no go on.

"Can't explain how I cried forever. Felt like forever, probably cried for a week. It was pretty disappointing," said Cathy Hedtler.

Hedtler waited in line for three days in 1979 to get tickets to see The Who.

Then Mayor Buddy Cianci canceled the concert because of safety concerns after eleven people died in a stampede before a show in Ohio.

Now, 33 years later, Hedtler and 13 others traded in their tickets, originally valued at $11.50, for a pair to the band's upcoming February concert at the Dunk.

The old tickets will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to Special Olympics of Rhode Island.

We're also told, the mayor who canceled the original show, may be in attendance in February.
