PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A portion of Broad Street in Providence will be closed to traffic next Sunday for an event called " Cyclovia Providence."

It's an event designed to give pedestrians, runners, skaters, and bicyclists exclusive access to the street.

The half-mile stretch of Broad Street, from Thurburs Avenue to Prairie Avenue will be closed to motor vehicle traffic from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. next Sunday, September 9th.

"Cyclovia Providence will turn Broad Street into a giant paved pedestrian and bike path for people from every corner of our city to come together, exercise, have fun and enjoy a new perspective on all that Providence has to offer," says Mayor Angel Taveras.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the event was taking place Sunday, September 2nd.
