EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Police, bomb squad, and hazmat crews are investigating a suspicious package that was left at an East Providence business on Monday.

The package was found at a Citizens Bank Mortgage Office on Tripps Lane on Monday evening.

Police say they were called to the building around 5 p.m. for reports of a suspicious package. The package in question is very small, but contained a powder that concerned employees.

Investigators are trying to determine what is in the package, and if it is potentially harmful.

This was not the first suspicious package delivered to a local business on Monday. Earlier in the day, emergency crews responded to an office on Broad Street in Providence for reports of an envelope containing a powdery substance.

That envelope was addressed to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island.

Investigators have not said whether they believe the two suspicious packages are connected.
