CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) The jackpot for the national PowerBall drawing is climbing to $253 million for this coming Saturday night, after nobody hit the big prize.
Still, somebody did win $40,000 in Wednesday's drawing.
The Rhode Island Lottery said in a release Thursday someone matched four numbers and the PowerBall number, and multiplied the winnings by adding the Power Play feature for an extra dollar. Usually, hitting four numbers and the PowerBall would win just $10,000.
The $40,000 winning ticket was sold at the Shell gas station at Benefit and Wickenden Streets in Providence. The prize has yet to be claimed, the lottery said.
The PowerBall drawing airs during Eyewitness News at 11 on WPRI 12 on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Numbers are also posted online after the drawing.
