PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A months long federal investigation into a counterfeit cigarette and prescription drug ring has led to the indictment of a Chinese national.
31-year old Lin Xiao Wei has been detained since his arrest in Miami on June 4th.
On Wednesday, a federal grand jury in Providence indicted Wei on charges of selling and importing counterfeit tobacco products into the United States, earmarked for Rhode Island.
A warrant was issued for Wei's arrest after federal agents arranged for the purchase and shipment of counterfeit Marlboro cigarettes totaling more than one million dollars.
A trial date is yet to be scheduled.
