PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Gunfire erupted in the excessive summer heat on Tuesday afternoon leaving a man seriously injured, according to police.
The violence broke out at the intersection of Veazie Street and Douglas Avenue around 1 p.m.
Investigators say the 37-year-old male victim was shot once in the head.
"We have a vague and very preliminary description of what we believe to be the suspect," said Capt. Michael Correia.
The victim was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
"I am very safe in saying he sustained a gunshot wound and it is a very serious wound," Capt. Correia stated.
Police say there are multiple witnesses, many of whom will not talk.
There's no word on a motive.
