PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The Rhode Island American Civil Liberties Union is getting involved in a close state legislative primary race in which the incumbent won by a single vote.
The ACLU said Thursday it will petition the state Supreme Court to review the District 58 House election following what it calls "multiple errors."
After multiple recounts, Democratic state Rep. William San Bento of Pawtucket beat challenger Carlos Tobon 544 votes to 543.
The ACLU says it has questions about the counting of ballots in the Sept. 11 primary and in subsequent recounts.
Tobon has asked the state Board of Elections to conduct a manual recount after earlier tallies each came up with a different result. His request was denied.
San Bento faces no opposition in the Nov. 6 general election.
