PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The National Weather Service is warning of dangerous rip currents and high surf in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.
The high surf advisory is in effect through early Tuesday morning for all ocean-exposed beaches in the two states.
Surf height is expected between four and eight feet.
The weather service is warning not just beachgoers but also viewers of the high surf. Viewers should also be careful because splash from individual waves breaking could sweep them into the water even in what seems like a safe area.
Rip currents are strong but narrow currents that can swiftly carry swimmers into deeper water and exhaust them trying to swim against it.
