Providence, R.I. (WPRI) - Curt Schilling's 38 Studios released its first video game Tuesday in a highly anticipated midnight release.
Rhode Island officials put up $75-million to lure Schilling's company to Providence, and sales of this first release could provide a glimpse into whether the state's controversial investment will pay off.
Schilling, who has some experience with pressure, says he is confident in his product, but was feeling the nerves of his company's debut game release.
"I slept like a baby the night before game seven of the 2001 World Series. I got no sleep last night," said Schilling.
To help kick start sales, the former Red Sox ace was on hand at a Bellingham, Massachusetts Gamestop signing copies for fans.
"It starts here. This is how is all begins. For every successful company this is the first step for all of them. It starts here," Schilling tells Eyewitness News.
Buyers agreed, its important to support 38 Studios' video games.
"This is the first time it's ever done anything for the Rhode Island economy. Plus, I just really love the game," said Josh Stone.
So far, the game has received high praise from critics.
Schilling also tells Eyewitness News his company already has another video game in the works.
No release date has been set.
