PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Monet Lounge has been ordered closed after a man was shot to death in a parking lot there Sunday morning.

The Providence Board of Licenses held an emergency meeting Sunday afternoon and ordered the club to close until a hearing could be convened Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting occurred in a parking lot outside the club on Harris Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.  A detail officer at Monet Lounge was reportedly the first on the scene, and found two victims with gunshot wounds. That officer managed to hold two suspects until backup arrived.

Police have identified the suspects as Terrell Barros, 23, and Stephen Bodden, 22. Both suspects are from New  Bedford.

Providence police tell Eyewitness News that one of the victims was killed by a gunshot to the chest from close range, while the other was shot in the leg. That wound is not thought to be life-threatening. The two victims, whose names are not yet being released, were patrons at the club but it's not clear exactly what led up to the shooting.

Teny Gross of the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence told Eyewitness News Sunday morning that he was at the hospital last night after the shootings.  He said the city has made progress in curbing club violence, but that Sunday morning's shooting was "clearly a setback."

Monet Lounge owner Dimitrios Liakos did not immediately return a call for comment.
