Providence officer to be sentenced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A suspended Providence police officer convicted of raping a woman while on duty is scheduled to be
sentenced this week.

Marcus Huffman was convicted in April of raping the woman inside an empty police substation in April 2007.

Prosecutors said Huffman picked up the woman outside a club where she was turned away for
being too intoxicated and then drove her to the nearby substation.

He then showed up at her house to take the report after 911 was called.

He faces a life sentence when he's sentenced Wednesday by Superior Court Judge Netti Vogel.

Huffman's lawyer argued at trial that any sexual contact that occurred was consensual.

Huffman has been suspended without pay from the police department.
