PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Providence Mayor David Cicilline is announcing his plans to enhance the metropolitan area's transit system.
The proposal comes after a year-long study to improve public transportation in the Ocean State. Cicilline says the new plan will help create new jobs and fuel the state's struggling economy.
The Mayor will be joined by representatives from the Congressional delegation, members of the General Assembly, environmental advocates, and business leaders.
The proposal includes some short-term projects to improve the transportation experience, as well as bigger, long-term goals, such as the creation of a streetcar system.
Mayor Cicilline is scheduled to unveil the plan Thursday morning at 10 AM at the Providence Biltmore.
