The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is looking for a new general manager, even though the current boss is not going anywhere.

On Monday, RIPTA gave General Manager Alfred Moscola a one-year-contract extension. He also said it will start a nationwide search for a successor.

Board Chairman John Rupp says Moscola would work for the new head agency head. According to the Providence Journal, Moscola says that he is neither happy nor sad about the decision, but that he will stay with RIPTA "for a short time".

Moscola has overseen the agency at a time of difficult financial conditions . Rupp says he wants RIPTA to take a more active, even visionary role in state transit.
