PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI/AP) - Hasbro, Inc. finished 2009 strong. The Pawtucket-based toymaker says its profits went up 77% in the fourth quarter, thanks to strong sales of its action figures and other toys aimed at boys.
Hasbro owns the Transformers, Tonka and Playskool brands and is the country's second largest toymaker .
For the year, Hasbro's earnings grew 22% to $374.9 million, or $2.48 per share, compared with 2008's profit of $306.8 million, or $2 per share.
The company says it expects more growth for 2010, but did not specify any estimates. Hasbro plans to have toys linked to "Iron Man 2" and "Toy Story 3."
