WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) -- A suspected case of animal neglect is under investigation in West Greenwich.
The RISPCA tells us that police discovered three dozen animals, including rabbits, ducks, and geese, living in squalor inside of a Mishnock Road home over the weekend.
At least two of the rabbits were dead.
The SPCA says that in cases like this, protecting the welfare of the animals is the number-one priority.
"We first will go there with an olive branch to see what we can do to help alleviate the situation," said RISPCA President E.J. Finocchio. "If we do not get cooperation, then we have no other choice but to charge the person for animal cruelty."
Charges have not yet been filed against the homeowner, who is not being identified.
